Homemade Hamburger Helper

Homemade Hamburger Helper!

We love hamburger helper!  But, I am not a fan of the boxed meal that contain ingredients I can't pronounce, and I love making my husband a delicious treat from scratch.

I found a recipe over at Farmgirl Gourmet, but I tweaked it a bit as I don't like too much spice in mine.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef
2 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 cups hot water
2 cups macaroni (whichever style you choose)
1 T cornstarch
1 T chili powder
2 t garlic powder
1 t sugar
1 t salt
1/4 t paprika
pinch of red pepper flakes
2 1/4 cups shredded cheese

Brown and drain ground beef.
Ground Beef

Add in pasta, milk, hot water and spices.
Yummy!

Spices
Chili powder, cornstarch, garlic powder, sugar, salt, paprika and crushed red pepper.

Stir, and bring to a boil.  Cover and let it simmer for approximately 10-12 minutes (until pasta is al dente).
If it looks like it's getting too dry, add some milk.

Add your shredded cheese, stir and dinner is served!
Yummy!

It was delicious!  What meals do you make from scratch?

  3. OK, I'll admit I loved hamburger helper as a kid, but I don't like all the chemicals as an adult. Great healthy version, so glad you brought it to foodie friday.
